THE OBJECT

Blackjack is a game in which each player places a wager against the dealer's hand. This card game allows you to exceed the dealer's hand by increasing the total value of your cards. If your hand contains more than 21 cards, you lose.

THE PLAY

The Dealer begins the game by giving two cards face-up to each Player. The Dealer chooses one of the cards. The second card dealt to the Dealer is placed underneath the first. All cards are dealt from a "shoe". Each card assumes its own face value.

The number of Kings, Queens, or Jacks is 10. The Ace is either counted as 1 or 11. The dealer's ace can also be counted as either 1 (or 11). If you feel that you have more cards than the dealer, you can gesture one card at a while to request additional cards. This is called "hits" and you will be able to decide whether to stand or not. To gesture the stand, you must wave your hand over your cards.

The Dealer can draw only on points totals 16 and less. He or she must also stand on points totals 17 and more. If the Dealer's total points exceed 21, the dealer will lose and all players who have 21 or less will win. Otherwise, the Dealer pays all hands greater than 21 and takes all bets lower than 21. All winning bets receive one-to-one payment or "even money".

TERMINOLOGY

BLACKJACK - Blackjack is when you have two of your initial cards that total 21. Blackjack pays between 3 and 2. You will receive a payment if the Dealer does NOT have an Ace, a ten-value or face up card. If the Dealer holds a 10-value card, then the Dealer will verify that the hole card is an Ace. If the Dealer has Blackjack, the hand will be a Push. If the Dealer's face card is an Ace (see insurance), insurance will be offered. Players who have a Blackjack may request additional money for their wager.

SPLITTING PHAIRS: If your two first cards have the same numerical value you may divide them into two hands, provided that the bet on each hand is equal to the original. The second hand can only be acted upon after the first hand has been completed. These hands may be doubled. You can re-split pairs up to two times for a total 3 hands. If the split pair contains Aces, you can only have one hand.

DOUBLING DEAD: If you have received the first two cards (except Blackjack), or the first two of any split pair, or a point count greater than 21 in two cards from a single card, you can wager an additional amount, but not exceeding the original bet. Double Down: You can only draw one additional card.

INSURANCE - If the dealer's first card was an Ace, you might choose to get insurance after all the cards have been dealt to the Dealer and all the Players. The insurance bet wagers that the Dealer will receive Blackjack. The insurance wager must not exceed one-half of your original bet. Insurance pays 2:1 if the Dealer has Blackjacks, but loses for all other situations. If the player has a Blackjack and the dealer shows an Ace, he can request even money.

HIT or Stand: Hand signals should be used to indicate your decision to hit the table or stand. To gesture a hit, the player must tap the table adjacent to the cards. To gesture a "stand", a player must move his or her hands over the cards. Verbally indicate your decision to split pairs, double down, or take insurance. The dealer is the only one who can alter, remove or modify the location of the cards. how to play blackjack in casinos casino blackjack rules
